Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers donated $1,000 to the Police Officers Association to purchase tougher bulletproof vests for officers.
Members of the police association are excited to get grilling.
Friday, Southern Careers Institute dropped off a trailer with a custom-made barbecue pit at the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association after about a year of work, president Scott Leeton said.
Although the association bought the trailer, the metal, labor and building of the pit were all donated. Gulf Coast Graphics also donated custom-made panels, which are covered with images of the American and Texas flags along with Corpus Christi Police Department badges.
“(The pit) will be used for cooking for officers,” Leeton said. “We’re excited. We’re cooking on it right now.”
Also featured on the barbecue pit is a large, shiny Corpus Christi Police Department logo.
The custom barbecue pit will be used at various events, such as Buc Parade, to feed officers. Officers also get fed when the association decides to take food to the police department, Leeton said.
“They did a very good job were very happy with it,” Leeton said.
