MRF and Volkswagen championships resume in Chennai

Both series are a part of the MRF MMSC National Racing Championship, which also comprise LGB 1300 and saloon car categories.

Ashwin Datta swept the MRF F1600 season opener in Coimbatore to get a headstart over his rivals, but could only notch up a single podium finish in Round 2.

Raghul Rangasamy, Goutham Parekh and Sandeep Kumar scored one win apiece that weekend, trimming Datta’s lead down to just 12 points.

The fight for the Ameo Cup honours is also very close, with the top three drivers separated by just 16 points heading into the second half of the season.

Kolhapur’s Dhruv Mohite holds a narrow six-point advantage over Saurav Bandyopadhyay despite three wins in five races, while Jeet Jhabakh sits another 10 points adrift in third.

In the Indian Touring Car Championship, Arka Motorsports’ Ashish Ramaswamy sits comfortably clear of Arka Motorsports teammate Nikanth Ram.

Arjun Balu and defending champion Arjun Narendra have scored two wins each, but are not in title contention owing to missing certain rounds of the series.

Finally, in the LGB F1300 category, Nabil Hussain sits 12 points clear of Datta and Sohil Shah, both of whom are tied with 83 points.

In addition to the drag events, 12 races will be held this weekend, including three each in Ameo Cup and MRF F1600.
