Leadership Memphis, a nonprofit leadership development organization, announced its Executive Board, new board members and committee chairpersons for the 2019 fiscal year.
The group is made up of various leaders from across the Memphis business spectrum.
“I am very excited about our 2019 board,” said David Williams, Leadership Memphis’ current president/CEO. “These are some of the best and brightest leaders in Memphis, and I could not think of a more talented group to lead us into the next 40 years.”
Terry Lynch has been involved with the organization for almost a decade and will serve as its chairman in 2019.
“My first formal introduction to Leadership Memphis was as part of the 2009 Executive Class,” Lynch said. “I was honored last year when the board’s nominating committee asked me to serve as vice chair, which leads to the chairmanship the following year.”
Leadership Memphis was founded in 1979 as The Memphis Institute of Public Responsibility and trained more than 4,000 leaders from its signature programs — Executive, FastTrack, Criminal/Juvenile Justice and Grassroots.
Leadership Memphis’ action initiatives are Volunteer Memphis and Graduate Memphis, which are undertaken to help economically and socially enhance the city by increasing the number of college-educated adults and volunteerism throughout the Mid-South.
“There are inspiring times for Leadership Memphis. The organization is widely recognized for its Executive and FastTrack programs, but we are much more than that,” Lynch said. “Leadership Memphis also administers Graduate Memphis, which works to mobilize the community towards critical initiatives that will produce significant changes in our city.”
Lynch said he looks forward to representing the organization.
“As we kick off our 40th anniversary year, the board has set a three-year goal to become a ‘Best-In-Class’ program, and I am incredibly excited to be part of this evolution,” he said. “The world is changing quickly, and we will continue to strive to be a vital part of the change we want to see in our great city.”
