Wait for principal, the senior-most official, comes to an end in Delhi University’s prominent colleges as the university official’s fast-track the hiring round.
Janaki Devi Memorial College and Deshbandhu College are among the top colleges which were at the helm of decision-making via a ‘acting head’ and can now expect an official principal within days.
Dean of colleges for the university confirmed that colleges have been signalled to accord the recruitment process utmost priority.
“The university officials are conducting interviews to hire professors till late every day, and we are scrutinising every candidate as the issue of hiring permanent professors has been fast-tracked. Principals will be appointed with no further delay,” said Devesh Sinha, dean of colleges.
The list of ‘acting-principal’ included most-sought after colleges of the country like Shri Ram College of Commerce, Hansraj College, Hindu College, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Ramjas College, Kirori Mal College and Kamala Nehru College and also off-campus colleges like Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (evening), Motilal Nehru college, Deshbandhu college, Rajdhani College, Swami Shraddhanand College, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College and Lakshmibai College this year.
In a bid to make the process less cumbersome, the university has created an online portal where candidates can fill the application form for applying with more than one college instead of filing the form by visiting the colleges.
The colleges have also been asked to provide a tentative date for holding the meeting of the selection committee for recommending a panel of names for considering an appointment to the post of the principal within three days of receiving the letter from the University officials.
“This refers to the issue of appointment of principals in the colleges of the university issued by respective colleges for which the pre-screened compiled data of candidates has already been forwarded to you for undertaking the task of scrutinising and short listing of candidates at the college level in terms of guidelines conveyed to the colleges,” reads the letter sent out to colleges by assistant registrar, mentioning that the university is keen that colleges get an official head at the earliest.
University officials had asked at least 27 colleges to fasten the process of hiring principles with an aim to fill the vacant positions before the start of this year’s academic session.
The process has been eased by the university officials by sending approved format to hire principals which can be filled online.
